Verizon Wireless has just made the HTC DROID Incredible 2 Android smartphone official. The Incredible 2 follows last year’s popular Incredible with a larger screen and updated internals.
The Incredible 2 is based on the HTC Incredible Sannounced for European markets at MWC earlier this year. It bumps the screen size from 3.7 inches up to 4, and has a new generation Qualcomm Snapdragon processor clocked at 1GHz, and 768MB of RAM. This is the same processor we saw in the HTC ThunderBolt, so performance should be quite good. The screen has the same 800 x 480 pixel resolution as the original Incredible. The 8 megapixel rear camera with 720p (1280 x 720 pixel) HD recording remains, and HTC has added a 1.3 megapixel front-facing camera for video chats. The battery has a capacity of 1450mAh.
The DROID Incredible 2 is not a 4G device, so it just has support for Verizon’s Ev-DO Rev. A 3G network. The usual Bluetooth, Wi-Fi 802.11b/g/n, and GPS functionality are all present and accounted for.
Software wise, the Incredible 2 runs Android 2.2 Froyo with HTC’s custom Sense interface on top of Android. The camera sports automatic face detection and the phone has integrated noise-cancellation technology for clearer phone calls. Adobe Flash Player support is present in the browser and the Incredible 2 also offers SRS WOWHD surround sound capabilities.
The HTC DROID Incredible 2 will be available from Verizon Wireless on April 28. It will cost $199 with a new two-year agreement and requires a $29.99 per month data plan.
