AT&T introduces Cisco Cius tablet for the business set

AT&T has introduced a new Android tablet aimed at business professionals and corporate customers. The Cisco Cius, originally announced by Cisco back in June of 2010, has been designed around business users’ needs, with heightened security options and custom software available for it.

Beneath the boardroom facade, the Cius is a 7-inch Android tablet with a 1024 x 600 pixel touchscreen. AT&T does not say which version of Android it is running, but the carrier claims there is support for Adobe Flash Player, which requires Android 2.2 Froyo or higher. The Cius sports front and rear cameras for video conferencing, and has Wi-Fi and HSPA+ support for connectivity. Internal storage is listed at 32GB, and the tablet weighs 520g (1.15lbs). It is not the thinnest tablet on the market either, measuring 225mm x 140mm x 15 mm (8.85in x 5.5in x 0.59in).

A unique feature is the optional High Definition Media Station that appears to be a desktop phone dock for the tablet. The HD Media Station plugs into the Cius via a standard USB port, while a micro-USB ports is available for charging and syncing with a computer.

AT&T claims that it is working with Cisco and third-party software developers to create unique business-oriented software specifically tailored to the Cius. The Cius is expected to be launched in AT&T’s business channels this fall at a yet-to-be-announced price.
